Chess is a timeless game that deserves a presence at our university. Our mission is to bring chess to students, staff, and the wider campus community.

Chess for Social Life

The joy of over-the-board chess lies in its ability to bring people together. Our aim is to nurture an inclusive chess community, filled with friendly faces.

Chess for Everyone

Our club is open to all, regardless of skill level or background. We aim to make chess approachable and enjoyable for everyone.

Have you ever wanted to play chess against your fellow students? Play over-the-board instead of endless online games against opponents you don’t know? We are here for just that! As a university chess club, we organize regular chess evenings and tournaments where you are welcome to play and enjoy the game of chess 🙂 Check out our upcoming events to see what is coming up! We also use our WhatsApp extensively to give updates on events!

We are officially recognised by VSETH and thank them for their regular support. ASK Reti, another chess club in Zürich, has always supported us since the founding of our own club. If you ever want to play a FIDE-rated event, we suggest you check out their website!

I have been playing chess since I was 6! Apart from loving the chess game, I also play roundnet and do plenty of hikes. As a PhD student, it does sometimes get hard to find time for all of this...

I’m a doctoral student in mathematics at ETH. Apart from numbers, I enjoy painting, sports involving a racket and sleeping. My favorite chess opening is the Tennison gambit, Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Variation.

Hi, I am Mateo. I am a PhD student in Mathematics at ETH. I also play for Reti Chess Club in the National leagues. My favourite players are Capablanca and Rubinstein.
